This year District Three, ONA is honored to host locally and nationally known nurse leader, Mary Ellen Patton, RN who will help us kick off National Nurses Week 2017 and the “100 Year” (1918-2018) anniversary of the inception of District Three, ONA.
This hometown celebrity along with a panel of RN members of our Continuing Education Committee will serve as our keynote speakers for our annual “Nurses Make a Difference” Banquet.
The event precedes National Nurses Week (NNW) 2017 (May 6-12) and will take place on Friday, May 5, 2017 at The Avalon Golf & Country Club, 1 American Way, Warren, Ohio 44484 at 6:00pm.
The presentation is entitled “District Three, ONA: 100 Years of Advocacy, Caring & Service”.
You will not want to miss this once in a life time celebration.Mary Ellen Patton was a previous District Three, ONA Executive Director and served in multiple positions at the local, state, and national professional nurse organizations. Her life time of leadership was recognized in 1998 by the American Nurses Association (ANA) with the creation of an award named in her honor, the Mary Ellen Patton Staff Nurse Leadership Award. Mary Ellen Patton was also inducted into the ANA Hall of Fame in 2014.
She will share with us her perspective on District Three’s history and evolution from March 20, 1918 at 3:00pm when the first meeting of District Three, ONA took place at the Youngstown location of the YWCA through her tenure as the Executive Director from November 1981 to February 2003.
Her fellow panelists (Colleen Wilson, Louise Aurilio, Gina Severino and Joanne Hedrick) will provide a timeline of the District accomplishments, a parallel of District activity and the evolution of the nursing profession as it relates to District effectiveness.
At the same location, a Reception to honor nurse members who retired within the last year will begin the evening at 5:30pm (see complete details in this newsletter).
A separate registration for dinner, the Continuing Education Program and special Membership Meeting will begin at 6:00p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:30pm and our presentation will begin at 7:30pm followed by a special business meeting.
An invitation was extended by the Board of Directors and our Legislation Committee to area Legislators to join us at this exciting commencement celebration. Please take this opportunity to celebrate the Districts Anniversary and NNW at a wonderful local restaurant with your RN colleagues, to meet and dine with your local representatives and to reconnect and reminisce with a locally grown registered nurse leader. Do not miss it. See you there!
